Now isn't that just tempting fate! hehe *edit* Plus, if they did produce a Dilophosaurus, why wouldn't they add the frill? They would not be the first by the way...

Indeed, after Jurassic Park many of the kid-oriented toy companies (i.e. those who market to actual children and not us old fogeys ;D ) did produce frilled dilophosaurs--though the dilophosaurs from the first few lines of JP either did not have frills or had removeable ones. I wouldn't be surprised if Sideshow, who are producing a collector's set of JP figures, would include a diorama figure with a spitting dilophosaur. I sure hope Papo doesn't though ;D

Well, even if it is exaggerated to affirm that the Papo line is a 'mistake', I do think that Battat, WwD and Invicta have much more merit than Papo. As I already stated, I think Papo and Kaiyodo forced other companies to update their figures, but Papo has renewed the JP frenzy as well, and that means only reverence for a film, not interest for the dinos themselves I'm with Dinocollector on this one, the Papo figures are monster reproductions, not dino replicas; I still believe that the new Papo standards will be a useful example for other companies like Safari.

Too much Julius Caesar lately on this forum ;D Seriously, it's not an act of treason I love the detail of the Paposaurs, no other company had done that, but it all comes down to this: I'm tired of all JP fanboyism. The Paposaurs have livened up the hype. Besides, I find the lack of originality rather disencouraging.

Meh, originality is overrated; there is something to be said about professional and skillful renditions of familiar & conventional material ;D

I'm trying to find them in the shops now - I want to check out the detail after this discussion. I remember when I first came across a few Papo dinos in a shop (I had never heard of Papo before), from far away I thought "ooo! ooo!" but within seconds I realised they were Jurassic Park copies - immediately made them seem tacky to me and I didn't take them seriously. Now I can't find them anywhere in Dublin...

It looks good nice job. Do you know something? I know you are going to kill me, but somehow this guy remembers me godzilla from 1998 It's the only thing I don't like from this dinosaurs, the spikes. IT would have been perfect without the spikes, it is really detailed, like a stuffed dinosaur!

Richard, you can file the spikes away (though it would be a shame, as the spikiness makes it distinguishable from other allosaur toys). That's what I do to dinosaur figures with feathers ;D *Whets knife for Wild Safari oviraptor on nest figure* *Is pained at the prospect of the expected announcement of the new Bullyland velociraptor on the Dinosaur Toy Blog* ;D

So I read this little discussion you had going on the last pages here, and I have to ask; why would a frilled dilophosaurus be bad, if it was a replica of the JP incarnation of the creature? If someone's aiming for scientific accuracy, then by all means, NO frill, but it isn't hard to see that Papo were going for a JP likeness.

I for one hope that the Dilophosaurus has no frill; I guess we're tired of the JP resemblance. Papo is unfortunately influenced by JP, but that is not what makes these replicas good, it's the excellent detail, which normally would cost A LOT, but in this case, they're very affordable and not without a satisfying degree of accuracy.
