It was a hot, musty day on Isla Sorna. Not that it ever wasn’t, thought Carl as he watched their target feed in front of them.
Their target was a juvenile Triceratops, or a “Trike” as they called it. In was stooped over, foraging for hidden goodies in the sand, just like a Buffalo would do in the snow.
Him and Alex were standing at the edge of the clearing. Fortunately for them, Triceratops were extremely near-sighted. That was working to their advantage now, as the Trike did not ever know they were there.
“Heck, this is a hunter’s dream.” Said Alex. Alex was a average-sized man, sporting a moustache. He was armed with a small Sub-Machine gun. Carl’s expertise was sniping, and had been chosen for this. Dinosaur’s had a completely different circulatory system, it would take long to die with a direct hit to the heart, even to the brain. Worse, in tranquilizing one, even if hit in an artery they had a slow circulatory system. This made it hard for the sedative to take effect quickly.
“Make it quick.” Alex said. Because of this, they had to hit the dino in the vein on its neck. It would still take a while for it to take effect. To avoid trouble they planned on staying out of the Trike’s field of vision.
Carl stooped down, resting his rifle on his knee. He lowered his head, putting the scope level with his eye. The Trike’s neck was instantly magnified. He picked out the vein from among the pebbled texture of the skin, and fired. The rifle made a quiet pop and the rifle vibrated slightly.
The Trike bellowed roar-splitting roar that echoed through the jungle. In spun around in a circle, drooling. It turned around, confused, and then charget in the direction of the shot. Its eye’s were fiery with rage, it covered the distance between the two men before they could react.
Just before the Trike reached him Carl dove to the side, hitting the ground with a thud. The Trike continued into the woods, not knowing it had passed the men. It’s bellow’s could be heard even after it was gone.
Suddenly another roar was heard behind the men, an answering roar. A huge adult Triceratops burst through the foliage, rushing to give the juvenile aid. Alex turned around and ran back into the woods. “You idiot! Don’t leave me!” Carl screamed. He got up and wildly began limping back where Alex had went. The big Triceratops covered the distance easily and ran full speed into Carl. Carl flew through the air screaming and hit the ground hard. The Triceratops ran over and stepped on Carl. Carl’s screams turned high-pitched and then died, slowly.
But the echo’s never died, and reverberated through the jungle…
